The haul appears to be significant

March 20, 2014

Thieves helped themselves to what’s being described as significant quantities of copper during the night from the construction site for the new Walhalla High School. They did it, according to a school district official, by breaking into several construction trailers belonging to project contractors. We’re told that sheriff’s officers are on the scene, beginning their investigation. Dr. Michael Thorsland, assistant superintendent for operations for Oconee public schools, says this burglary and theft is different from the one in October last year. In that instance, thieves stole copper that had been hung in sections of buildings.
