The new Walhalla High from above

Oconee school officials have been given pictures of what the new Walhalla High looks like from above, and they like what they see. The high-definition pictures are courtesy of someone’s robotic drone. Down on the ground work has progressed enough to allow the district to begin to move certain items to the new campus. Steve Hanvey, assistant superintendent for operations, says the partial move will take place during spring break week March 30-April 3, with the rest of the moving from the current high school to be done this summer. Meantime, representatives of the state Department of Education have identified corrections to be made at the new school. But they are “small things,” in Hamby’s estimation. There is already talk about scheduling open house or a drop-in to allow the public to tour the new school planned for an August opening August and a first-year enrollment of nearly one thousand students.
