The pipeline explosion impact on local government

An interruption in fuel supply could have ramifications for local government, such as that which affects the running of school buses and the county’s fleet of service vehicles.  But at least one Oconee County department is in good shape.  The county airport near Clemson received a load of aviation fuel last week which should be enough to handle all air traffic that is generated by this Saturday’s Clemson-Syracuse football game, according to Jeff Garrison, airport manager.  This afternoon Scott Moulder, county administrator, made this statement about the county’s fleet of vehicles:  “We have standing procedures for this type of event. We implemented with the most recent disruption and we will deploy those practices again. Staff is told to conserve where possible.  Public safety is asked to maintain a full tank everyday and we purchase reserve tanks at our public works facility ahead of time. These among other practices are generally sufficient to carry us through depending on the actual impact and duration of the repairs.”
