The potential for a dam failure

In the view of Ben Turetsky, executive director of “FOLKS,” the potential for Duke Energy’s Jocassee dam to fail is “extremely remote.” Nevertheless, the possibility will be addressed during a public meeting Thursday night at the World of Energy. The Friends of Lake Keowee has made arrangements for Scott Krein, director of Oconee Emergency Services, to present the annual dam safety report which Duke makes to the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission. Krein will be assisted by Lisa Simmering of the Oconee GIS Department. The public is invited. The evening begins at 6 with light refreshments, followed by the forum at 6:30.
