The Shopping-est Time of the Year

November 23, 2012

The shopping season began earlier than usual this year. Retailers such as Wal-Mart, Kmart, Target & Sears opened their doors last night following the Thanksgiving feast. The early sales were not without incident. Reports from across the upstate indicate heavier than usual traffic and congested areas. A threat at a Greenwood Wal-Mart caused a temporary shutdown of that store. The store received a threatening call Thursday evening, prompting a shut down. Nothing unusual was found. Seneca’s Kmart saw a crowd of early Thanksgiving day shoppers as it opened its doors at 6 am. With the prominence of social media, Consumer safety experts offer some solid advice for shoppers: do NOT broadcast where you are or what you are buying. Experts say posting your whereabouts and your purchases to facebook and twitter tells everyone you are not at home and what treasures you’ll be bringing home. Citizens are urged to cautious and to be courteous today.
