Thorsland: “It’s just the way we do business”

From time to time, questions arise as to just what purpose Oconee public school credit cards are being used. But the district’s top officials say the use of the credit cards by individual schools and individual school personnel is carefully monitored. District policy allows the cards to be used for purchases under $2,500 dollars. Dr. Michael Thorsland, superintendent, told the county trustees last night, “It’s just the way we do business” and it saves school bookkeepers from having to frequently write checks. Dual controls cover who uses the cards and why. Gloria Moore, district finance director, says a transparent approach is taken to the use of the cards. That information is posted on the district’s website.
