Three OC police chiefs attend statewide meet

Three municipal chiefs of police from Oconee County were in Myrtle Beach over the weekend for a conference meeting of the South Carolina Police Chiefs Association. Westminster Chief Dean Awalt said one of the conference speakers, the assistant police chief in Newtown, Connecticut imparted valuable information about how small town police departments can cope with fatal shootings in schools—such as what his New England community faced in December last year. Besides Awalt, taking part in the conference from Oconee County were Seneca Chief John Covington and Walhalla Chief Ronald Wilbanks.
