TUESDAY SPORTS: USC/Kentucky gametime set; USC loses commits; Coastal and Wofford in FCS Top 25

The South Carolina Gamecocks and Kentucky Wildcats will have a 7:30 p.m. ET kick on Saturday, October 5, it was announced Monday. The game will be televised on FSN. The No. 12 Gamecocks (2-1, 1-1 SEC) will travel to Orlando to face the UCF Knights (3-0, 0-0 AAC) in a non-conference tilt this weekend

*Class of 2014 WR Wesley Green and 2015 DE Arden Key of Lithonia, GA have de-commited from South Carolina. GoGamecocks.com reports their high school coach Cortez Allen confirmed the pair’s decision. Allen said the teammates, along with their parents, decided it was the best decision to open up their recruitment.

*Coastal Carolina is 4-0, and fresh off a 50-17 win over Hampton Saturday. The Chant’s are ranked 12th in this week’s Sports Network FCS top 25 poll. This week they will play at Elon. Wofford is the only other in-state team ranked this week. The Terriers lost 3-0 to Gardner-Webb Saturday, dropping them from 10th to 17th in the poll.

*Southern Wesleyan University has officially announced its move to NCAA Division II membership. They will join the Conferece Carolinas, which includes the Palmetto State colleges of Converse, Erskine, and Limestone.

*The Denver Broncos downed the Oakland Raiders 37-21 in Monday Night Football at home in Colorado. Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning went 32 of 37 for 374 yards with three touchdowns, while Raiders QB Terrelle Pryor was 19 of 28 for 281 yards with one touchdown. Pryor suffered a concussion on a helmet-to-helmet hit by the Broncos’ Wesley Woodyard late in the game, putting his status in doubt for next Sunday. Denver got its 14th straight regular-season win in the game, tying the franchise record set in 1998.

*In the majors on Monday, Mike Minor gave up two home runs in the Atlanta Braves’ 5-0 loss to the Milwaukee Brewers. The series continues Tuesday at 7:00 PM at Turner Field.

*The Pittsburgh Pirates clinched their first playoff spot in 21 years Monday night with a 2-1 win over the Chicago Cubs and the Washington Nationals’ loss to the St. Louis Cardinals, guaranteeing the Pirates at least a wild card berth. The last time Pittsburgh got to the post-season was when the team won three straight NL East titles from 1990 to 1992. The Cincinnati Reds also clinched at least a wild card spot, beating the New York Mets 3-2.

*The Sacramento Kings announced Monday that four-time NBA champion Shaquille O’Neal has acquired a minority stake in the team, joining the NBA franchise’s new ownership group. Vivek Ranadive bought the Kings from the Maloof family in May, and another member of the group is 24 Hour Fitness founder Mark Mastrov, who is friends with O’Neal.
