Tigers win in Charlottesville; Gamecocks defeat Mississippi State; Furman wins

Sammy Watkins had 129 receiving yards against Virginia on Saturday. And that was just his two touchdowns. The junior playmaker hauled in scoring passes of 33 and 96 yards on Clemson’s first possessions of both the first and second halves, respectively, as the Tigers rolled to a 59-10 win in their last trip to Scott Stadium until at least 2025.

The South Carolina Gamecock defense posted five turnovers to help South Carolina claim a 34-16 victory over Mississippi State in front of 82,111 fans at Williams-Brice Stadium on Saturday afternoon. With three interceptions and two fumble recoveries, South Carolina’s defense topped its four turnovers from the UCF game earlier this year. It helped the Gamecock offense to score 18 of its points on the day. The group also tallied six pass breakups and four quarterback hurries while making seven tackles for loss.  Sophomore tailback Mike Davis posted another 154 all-purpose yards, including 128 rushing yards, in the win.

Ray Early booted an 18-yard field goal on the first play of the fourth quarter and Furman held on to beat Georgia Southern, 16-14, Saturday afternoon at Paulson Stadium in the final meeting between the two Southern Conference rivals. The game was heard on 96.3 WGOG. The win, Furman’s third in its final four visits to Statesboro, improved the Paladins to 4-5 overall and 3-2 in SoCon play.
