Time to mourn the loss of a police K9

A memorial service is set next week in Westminster to allow the public to pay its respects to the loss of the police department’s K9 dog “Dexter.”  Chief Dean Awalt announced yesterday a memorial service takes place at 7 o’clock Thursday night, August 4 at the West-Oak Middle School.  The dog died after being hit by an unknown vehicle near the home of its owner, officer Isaac Moore.  July 4 fireworks apparently scared the dog, which bolted from its pen.  Awalt says this memorial service will also serve as closure for Moore, the dog’s owner and handler.  Yesterday the Westminster Rotary Club committed $250 dollars toward the cost of the medical bills, which include the cost of a surgery.
