To be a candidate, deadline looms

Unless things change over the next day, this year’s ballot for the Seneca City Council will be reserved for incumbents only. The four council members whose seats are to be voted on in March this morning remained the only candidates. Incumbents Scott Durham, Joel Ward, Ernest Riley, and Andrea Alewine qualified for re-election last week on the first day of eligibility. And they signed up as a team. This year’s election takes place the 11th of March, and the qualifying deadline expires at noon tomorrow.  A spokeswoman for county elections says if only four candidates are in the field for the four seats, no election will be necessary.  However, there’s a provision in the election law that permits write-in candidates, provided they announce within a two week-period after the close of official filing.
