Toning down the display

Walhalla’s tradition of a super-bright outdoor Christmas light display up and down Main Street apparently will be less spectacular this year, according to city officials. At last night’s meeting, Councilwoman Jennifer Woodward Crawford, saying change is difficult, announced that there will be no lights in the Bradford pear trains on Main Street. She says the problem is that the trees have reached such a height that it’s no longer possible to decorate them with lights as the city has done in past years. Crawford also confirmed to 96.3/WGOG NEWS before last night’s meeting there will also be no lights in the trees in the Main Street grass medians. What Main Street is losing in terms of bright lights, the grounds of the Community Depot are gaining. According to the councilwoman, the city has consulted with the chamber of commerce and garden clubs and hopes that the public will accept and eventually like the substitute displays of calling attention to the season.
