Tornado-What to do?
When a tornado warning is spotted, a person may feel panicked and not know what to do. WGOG would like to offer some tips, and a guide on exactly what to do if you spot a tornado.
- AT HOME: Seek shelter in the basement under something sturdy, such as a bench. If there is no basement, seek shelter in a small room in the middle of the house such as a closet or bathroom. Stay away from doors and windows.
- AT WORK OR SCHOOL: Designated shelter areas are best. Stay away from large open rooms and rooms with windows. Lie low with hands covering the back of your head.
- IN MOBILE HOMES OR CARS: Leave the vehicle. Seek a safe structure or lie down in a low area with your hands covering the back of your head and neck.
Remember, a tornado warning means a tornado has been spotted or rotation has been detected by weather radar. When a Tornado warning is issued, seek shelter immediately.
