Tourism plan approved

OconeeCounty leaders took a step last night to make their county more of a destination place for others.  The County Council approved a “Destination Oconee” plan as developed by the South Carolina National Heritage Corridor and recommended by the county’s Mountain Lakes Convention Visitors Bureau.  The plan calls for broad-based banding and marketing to highlight Oconee’s attractions and natural resources.  Some members of the public worry, however, that by encouraging more visitors, the county will be prone to more litter and a deterioration of the area’s natural beauty.
