A Dixie Youth baseball tournament at Seneca is underway this week, with one less entrant. City Recreation Director Rick Lacey has confirmed that, following a protest made by a Walhalla coach, the Townville Recreation Department withdrew its teams from 7 and 8-year old competition. The protest involved a game Tuesday night and a question of whether one of the Townville players was in violation of the age restriction. According to Lacey, the county recreation directors met yesterday and decided to require the Townville team to produce birth certificates. At that, Lacey said, Townville Recreation Director George Anderson decided to withdraw all of his department’s teams from the tourney.
