Townville tragedy holds down attendance for trail meeting

A small turnout in Salem for the last of two public information meetings on the Palmetto Trail project reflected the emotions that have gripped Oconeeans countywide in response to the Townville tragedy.  Nevertheless, last night’s meeting at the Salem Community Center, led by a project architect, proceeded.  Dan Pollock, president of Walhalla Partners for Progress, says the 10-12 people there expressed interest in seeing a spur of the trail extension reaching Salem for economic development benefits.  Pollock is a supporter of plans to extend the traail to a new terminus downtown Walhalla and his takeaway, from two nights of meetings in both Salem and Mountain Rest, is that, “Largely, the community supports the Palmetto Trail in Oconee County.  They have some concerns.  They continue to register those concerns with us.”
