Traffic-related death in Walhalla

A pickup truck hit a utility pole at a Walhalla intersection, and the coroner says the driver suffered cardiac arrest at the accident scene. Coroner Karl Addis says Will Kelley, 82 years old, died in the emergency department at the hospital, about 45 minutes after the accident. Kelley listed two addresses: the Whetstone Road in Mountain Rest and Easley, where he owned a car lot. Addis ordered an autopsy to help determine if a medical event occurred before the collision or if the driver died of traumatic injuries. Autopsy results are to be released this afternoon. The coroner gave this account: “The 911 system was activated at 3:33 pm with the report of a single vehicle collision at the intersection of West Main Street and North Church Street in Walhalla. Mr. Kelley appeared to be the unrestrained driver of a 2000 Mazda pickup truck which was traveling west on Main Street when he struck a utility pole head on along the northwest corner of North Church Street….” The Walhalla police are also investigating.
