Train trestle/bridge demolition under way in Clemson

Monday saw the start of the long anticipated demolition of the train trestle/bridge on SC 133 in Clemson, and the city of Clemson alerts motorists to expect DOT lane closures in the vicinity of SC 133 and U-S 123 until the demolition is completed. SCDOT has advised Clemson City Police that having someone to direct traffic would only serve to cause a bottleneck on Highway 123 and Highway 76 and, to avoid a gridlock, is not advisable. Police Chief Jimmy Dixon suggests that travelers might use one of these an alternative route during bridge demolition:

(1) From Daniel High School on Highway 133, past 12 Mile Bridge, turn left onto Pike Road, then right onto Jewell Bridge Road, proceed  to Old Central Road, right onto West Lane (by CATbus offices), then right at Highway 93.

(2) From Daniel High School on Highway 133, turn left onto RC Edward Road to the Town of Central, then right at Highway 93.
