Trees to be toppled Monday

January 26 002 The director of Walhalla Public Works, James Moore, has chosen Monday as the day to begin the removal of the downtown Bradford Pear trees. According to Nancy Goehle, the tree-cutting on Main Street, between Ann and Tugaloo, will begin on the Ann Street side and start with the trees causing the most trouble. That’s a reference to the trees that are causing, in some areas, the sidewalk to buckle. As many as 18 trees are to be removed to help make way for the start of the city’s Streetscape and their eventual replacement with other kinds of trees and vegetation.
