Two schools in line for new principals Monday

A special Oconee school board meeting Monday is likely to produce new principals at two of the county’s public schools, according to Andy Inabinet. The school board chairman told 96.3/WGOG NEWS this morning that the trustees during Monday’s noon-hour meeting are likely to vote on new principals for both Walhalla High School and Tamassee-Salem Elementary School. The Walhalla vacancy occurred when Josh Young resigned to accept the job of the new principal at Daniel High School in Pickens County. The Tamassee-Salem Elementary vacancy occurred when Marie Lisa Simmons accepted a transfer to become the new principal at Seneca’s Blue Ridge Elementary School. At Monday’s meeting, Inabinet says trustees are likely to talk about the effort to appoint a permanent county superintendent, although no action is expected. Dr. Michael Thorsland currently serves as interim superintendent.
