Two Soil and Water seats available this year

Two seats on Oconee County’s Soil and Water Conservation Commission are available during this year’s November General Election. But to land a space on the ballot, a candidate must first collect 100 signatures of county residents by petition. The two seats available this year are those seats currently held by Bob Winchester and Carol Hendrix, and both are engaged in signature drives. The commission offers no compensation, but its duties are important. The commission works closely with the agriculture community to help ensure erosion control. It also works to prevent the potential for downstream flooding from rural ponds and lakes.
