United front marshaled for 1-cent tax

Those who have a stake in the success of an Oconee County ballot proposition this fall intend to offer a united front when it comes to its passage. An example is the attitude taken by Danny Day, an assistant public defender who chairs the Oconee Library Board of Trustees. Day predicts that adding a penny to the sales tax charged in Oconee County will succeed, but he’s aware there must be effort to educate the public as to what’s involved. And what’s involved, he says, is a lot more than just building new libraries and fixing up old ones. The extra cent paid would go to pay for other projects for the common good—such as an indoor recreation/aquatic center and a community improvements in the Fair Play and Salem sections of Oconee County. More about this can be heard on ‘Community Sound Off’ this Sunday.
