UPDATE on cyber attack

Governor Nikki Haley today updated what South Carolina is doing to combat the major cyber attack in which someone was able to access files of the Department of Revenue that include Social Security numbers and financial information of more than three and half million state residents. Haley says since Friday and the first public announcement of the cyber attack on South Carolina, thousands of South Carolina taxpayers have called the toll-free number and many have signed up for the security investigation to determine if their information is affected. For one year, the state is bearing the cost of that service. At first, the call was system was flooded by callers. That has since lessened, and the governor today said there is no immediate rush for a taxpayer to call, but as soon as you can call and sign up for the protection service the better off you will likely be. The number to call is 1/866-578-5422.
