USFS: two prescribed burns today

March 28, 2013

White smoke is drifting south toward the Walhalla area today from at least one of two prescribed burns being carried out inside the Sumter National Forest. A USFS representative says today’s first burn took place at Presbyterian Lake, in the vicinity of the rifle range at Mountain Rest. A second prescribed burn is planned for the Long Creek area, at Pine Mountain. According to the USFS, it’s expected the wind from the Long Creek burn will carry the smoke straight up.
