Verbalizing Oconee’s past

Books and photographs are a tried and true way to record the past.  But don’t underestimate the sound of a voice and the emotions carried with it.  The Oconee Public Library, in partnership with the Oconee Heritage Center, has begun to create an oral history of the county, formed not long after the Civil War.  The idea is to start with collecting stories of the early days around the man-made lakes:  Keowee, Jocassee, and Hartwell.  Do you remember places such as High Falls before it was underwater?  Maybe you have a family member who sold land to help Duke build its power project.  Staff members at the library and the heritage center want to hear from you.
