Viral outbreak in ‘B’ cell

A viral-type outbreak, suggesting stomach bug or possible flu, broke out within the last 24 to 36 hours in an open dorm section at the Oconee Detention Center. As many as eight of 20 male inmates housed there have been affected, according to Captain Steve Pruitt, jail director. Pruitt says the ill inmates have the services of an in-house nurse and have recently been offered a generic type Imodium medication. He said only three of the inmates accepted the medication because of a requirement that they temporarily follow a liquid-based diet. To Pruitt, that suggests the situation is getting better rather than worse. A loved one of an inmate alerted 96.3/WGOG NEWS to the situation, worried whether the outbreak would spread and what’s being done to address it.
