Visitors flock to lakes and access areas

At the start of a hot summer, Oconee County lakes and access areas are filling up with visitors. Considering temperatures in the mid 90s, it’s a no-brainer. People are looking for a way to cool off and to enjoy the outdoors. Keowee Towne and Stamp Creek access areas are seeing larger crowds. Some boaters have been turned away at Fall Creek Landing. All of this leads to concerns for safety.  Since the last drowning at Jumping Off Rock,  Oconee Sheriff’s Office has established a greater presence in the area. “FOLKS”—Friends of Lake Keowee—reports a large number of calls and complaints to the DNR hotline now that buoys have been removed from coves indicating “No Wake” zones.
