Volunteer fire station makes expansion plans

One of Oconee’s oldest volunteer fire departments is announcing plans this week to renovate and expand and wants to talk about those plans with the homeowners and business customers the department protects. Bill Box, president of the Corinth-Shiloh Fire Department, says there will be three community service meetings beginning this week. Corinth-Shiloh’s building is 30 years old and, according to Box, the department’s call load has risen from 100 to 500 a year. Not all calls are actual fires, but in these days of cross-training volunteer fire fighters are relied on to provide initial medical care and provide traffic control at accident scenes. Corinth-Shiloh proposes $600 thousand worth of renovations and additions and invites the public to learn about its plans during any one or all of three community service meetings. The first will be 6 o’clock Thursday night, the second at 9 Saturday morning, and the third at 10 Thursday morning, January 22. All meetings take place at the fire station on the Old Clemson-Seneca Highway.  According to Box, his department intends to rely on community fundraising and, possibly, grants to pay for the work.
