Volvo Cars selected Charleston area for U-S plant

Volvo Car Corporation has selected Berkeley County for its first manufacturing plant in the Western hemisphere. An announcement this morning by state officials says, at first, Volvo will aim to produce about 100 thousand cars a year. At a location in northwestern Berkeley County, the plant is expected to create 2,000 new jobs over 10 years and up to 4,000 by 2030. The cars made are to be sold in the U-S and exported for sale elsewhere. All information on hiring will be posted as available at the readySC portal at www.readysc.org/Volvo/.
