VOSO disbands with an explanation

A citizen’s group that served as a voice from southern Oconee County will no longer be heard after the end of the month. VOSO, Voice of South Oconee, announced today plans to cease to exist and the end of its “what’s happening updates.” And it lays as the reason the failure of the one-cent capital project referendum last week. Here is the group’s statement issued this morning: “South Oconee was poised for significant change over the next several years had the capital project referendum passed. We were excited about keeping residents informed about the new community center and library, which would have been the largest capital improvement that the area had ever seen. We viewed this as an opportunity to draw the community closer together as they collectively worked to help design the facility and define its impact on the community. With district 5’s (the rough definition of ‘south Oconee’) overwhelming rejection of the capital project referendum, VOSO lost a great deal of its motivation to continue to operate.”
