Voter photo ID trial

The week-long trial before a three-judge federal panel begins today in South Carolina versus United States, a case involving South Carolina’s photo identification law. The trial begins at 9 this morning at the U-S District Court in Washington. In the lawsuit, South Carolina is asking a federal court to allow it to implement its photo I-D law in time for the November election. According to the NAACP Legal Defense Fund, South Carolina’s law, which only allows for the use of a limited number of photo IDs when voting in-person at the polls, was previously rejected by the Department of Justice.
