Administrator’s work cut out for him

Scott Moulder’s note-taking was a reminder of the marching orders he was given during last night’s Oconee County Council meeting. Before making any decisions, the council will rely on its administrator to research a handful of questions. One is whether the county should join a lawsuit on behalf of five low state counties that seeks to recover lost deed recording fees. Another seeks the answer to questions about the legal ramifications of creating a local human affairs commission. Those concerns were raised by Paul Cain, the attorney member of the council. Oconee County resident Richard Marcengill, during last night’s public comment, urged the council to proceed with caution about Cain’s earlier call to relax the county’s noise law to the extent that it would allow outdoor concerts, particularly on lakesides. Marcengill says noisy concerts should be balanced against people’s rights for peace and quiet. Cain later announced last night that the reason the issue was not on last night’s agenda is that county officials are indeed looking at exactly the issues Marcengill raised.
