Property for restaurant in line to be annexed

Walhalla Planning Commission gave a nod of approval last night to a request to add to the corporate limits 1.6 acres.  It’s a parcel of property between highway 28 and Hetrick Street envisioned as a future Bojangles restaurant.  The planning commissioners’ approval amounts to a recommendation to the city council.  No one spoke in opposition.  However, three nearby home owners asked questions.  Responding to Hetrick Street resident Roberta Harvey, zoning administrator James Ashton said Bojangles will install a new water line in the area and will provide a buffer between its property and the homes on Hetrick Street.  At City Hall last evening Harvey said while she does not oppose Bojangles being made part of Walhalla, she does not want her property annexed and she is opposed to a plan to close her street.  Ashton said the annexation application covers property for Bojangles only not any property owned by Harvey or her immediate neighbors. According to Harvey, the issue of closing Hetrick Street will come up during a meeting Tuesday, April 5 at the county administrative complex in Walhalla.
