Main Street beer tent at Ok’fest

At the request of the chamber of commerce, Walhalla leaders will consider allowing a beer tent to operate for limited hours during this year’s Oktoberfest. Meeting as committees last evening, the mayor and council entertained the chamber’s request for a Kraft Beer Festival to run 2 to 6 Saturday afternoon, October 18 on the Green at the corner of Main and N. Catherine. A vote will be taken during council’s regular meeting August 19. The Kraft Beer fest, which would offer a tasting event, would operate that afternoon simultaneous with the Sertoma Club’s beer tent at Sertoma Field. Vanessa Penton, chamber director, also asked the mayor and council to request the closing of parts of Main Street between the blocks of Spring and Catherine and Katherine and College. According to Penton, this would allow the vendors to place their booths in the street so as to not interfere with Main Street stores. She also asked the city to waive the hospitality tax charged by Main Street merchants for the festival’s two days—Friday and Saturday, October 17 and 18.
