Ground broken for Goodwill and Job Connection

Near Seneca where a restaurant (Ryan’s) once stood are now grounds ready for new construction and a new purpose. Public and private interests turned out this morning for a symbolic break of ground for the new Goodwill Store and Job Connection. Actual construction is set to begin Monday. The ceremony was led by Patrick Michaels, president/CEO for Goodwill Industries of the Upstate and Midlands. Two Oconee County councilmen, Paul Cain and Paul Corbeil, said Goodwill’s investment in Seneca and Oconee County is a good example of how a non-profit from the private sector is helping government find work for the un-employed. “George Bush 41, part of his campaign pitch back in ’92 was about a thousand points of life, and he was referring to organizations like Goodwill,” Corbeil told the gathering. Goodwill already helps connect people with jobs in Seneca, from an office at 319 Main Street.
