Walhalla Rotary helps Haiti

A member of Rotary Club of Walhalla returned from a visit to her native country of Haiti and wanted to help make life better in a country knownn for its poverty.  That led to fellow members of her club making monthly donations for Hope for Haiti.  It’s a project to provide food and medicine. Now the Walhalla Rotary Club wants to provide a fresh water catchment system, a method to solve potable and non-potable storm water and energy challenges.   A group of club members will go to Haiti to oversee the construction of the facility and ferment relations between the club and the village. A fund raiser, “I Battled Bad Creek”, a 5k run/walk at Duke Energy’s Bad Creek facility will be held Saturday, May 14. Bad Creek provides scenery unsurpassed in the upstate with a road route for a challenging course which has been certified. The facility is 8 miles north of Salem just off Highway 130. (Address is 151 Bad Creek Rd,, Salem) The entry fee is $30. Each runner will get an event T-shirt, plus additional T-shirts will be available for sale. On-site registration will begin at 8:00 with the race starting at 9:00. This race should give a good runner a challenge and provide an excellent visual backdrop. The spotting of deer, turkey, fox and occasionally even a bear will be a bonus, and because of the altitude, much of the flora may still be in bloom.
