Walhalla commissions a master plan

Walhalla leaders took planning to a new level during their September meeting last night at City Hall.  They coupled the acceptance of an updated comprehensive plan, with a vote to commission a national planning and design company to undertake what’s believed to be Wahalla’s first master plan.  Mayor Danny Edwards believes the master plan is important because it can give his city an idea of what it might become in 10-15 years.  The city council left open exactly how much money it will compensate Alta Planning and Design of Portland, Oregon, as the work will be done in phases.  A representative of Alta’s Greenville office, Blake Sanders, attended last night’s meeting.  On the heels of authorizing a master plan, the council approved a Tjay Bagwell motion to accept the city’s updated comprehensive plan.  The project was recently completed by the planning commission with help from city staff member James Ashton, along with the South Carolina Appalachian Council of Governments.
