Walhalla downtown block too narrow for parking?

At their meeting table, Walhalla City Council talked about the possibility last night of eliminating street-side parking on one block of a downtown street for reasons of safety. But before doing that, they will first talk to merchants who would be affected and the DOT, which maintains the street.  The block in question is S. Catherine Street, between Main and S. Broad street.  There, the only street-side parking is parallel parking on one side only. According to Walhalla council members, the street is so narrow that vehicles have to move into the opposite lane to avoid parked vehicles.  Councilwoman Jennifer Crawford suggested a dedicated crosswalk for pedestrians who walk from the city parking lot across the street to a Mexican restaurant which recently opened on S. Catherine.
