Walhalla meeting termed “productive”

The chairwoman of a special Walhalla committee calls last night’s meeting productive and says her committee will present a recommendation next week to the city council. At the request of Mayor Edwards, Councilwoman Jennifer Crawford convened a meeting of interested parties to resolve questions and concerns over Oktoberfest changes proposed by the chamber of commerce. Those changes call for the closing of two blocks of Main Street so that vendors can move their booths from the sidewalk to the street, so as not to interfere with store businesses. And they would allow the chamber to relocate its craft beer tasting tent from behind the chamber office to the green space on Main Street. Crawford this afternoon declined to disclose the committee’s recommendation, but she hinted the recommendation will be a compromise to those on both sides of the issues.
