Walhalla Pool gets belated opening

Schools are back and summer is fast ending, but the Walhalla City Swimming Pool is just getting started. Word from City Hall is that Walhalla will bring back concrete pool swimming to the public next week, Thursday, August 29, when Walhalla’s will become the only city-operated swimming pool in Oconee County. It’s been a long and difficult trail to reach this point, considering the public-private partnership that was required to make it happen. But Mayor Danny Edwards is quoting people who’ve seen the results of the rehabilitation project as saying the pool looks as good as it ever has looked. On the 29th the pool will operate evening hours from 6 to 8, and everyone may swim free for the first night. It’ll then follow a different schedule over the Labor Day weekend. According to City Administrator Nancy Goehle, they are confident they have qualified lifeguards lined up to ensure everyone’s safety.
