Walhalla retains engineering services

In a special meeting, Walhalla hired an engineering company to assist the city as it goes about the project for a new water supply. The agreement is with Goodwyn, Mills and Cawood. Some large dollar figures were tossed around last night at City Hall—between $18 and $19 million. That is the estimate for what it’ll cost to bring Lake Keowee water to Walhalla, and the city intends to apply and receive as much of that money as it is allowed. According to city leaders, members of the South Carolina Congressional Delegation in Washington will be asked to exert their influence with the USDA—the federal agency to whom application will be made. And, remember that consent order that requires Walhalla to come up with a plan to correct the unsatisfactory rating assigned by the state to the city’s treatment plant? Well, that’ll actually serve as ammunition in favor of the federal grant, in the estimation of city leaders.
