Walhalla water project draws interest

Walhalla’s plans to replace its 1963 water treatment plant have drawn interest from three out of county companies. Yesterday was the deadline for companies to respond to Walhalla’s RFPs—requests for proposals. Three companies made known their interest to City Hall: the Harper Corporation of Greenville, Crowder Construction of Apex, North Carolina and State Utilities Contractors of Monroe, North Carolina. Scott Parris, Walhalla utilities director, says the city is considering hiring a company to act in a construction-management role—similar to that which Trehel Corporation has performed for the Oconee School District at the new Walhalla High School construction site. Parris and Nancy Goehle, city administrator, drew no opinions from the RFPs opened yesterday afternoon. Parris says they will be studied and presented to the city council for consideration.
