Walhallan charged with kidnapping

A 28-year old Walhallan sits today in an Oconee jail cell, charged with kidnapping. But the police say the accused may face further legal difficulty from the federal government. Lt. Paul Harris says Camilo Castillo Garcia, a former Walhalla restaurant worker, is charged with kidnapping a woman, to whom he was once engaged. Harris quoted the woman as saying that on June 3 Garcia reached for a gun and would not let her leave his E.S. Boundary Street home on her own. The woman further accused Garcia of driving her to a motel in Newberry, where she eventually was able to escape and call her mother. Garcia’s legal troubles may only increase. Harris said federal immigration authorities have taken an interest in Garcia’s case and may start proceedings to deport him to his native Honduras.
