Walhallans fall victim to scam

The Walhalla police are alerting the public to a scam in which the perpetrators use a telephone pitch to solicit money from their victims. Lt. Paul Harris says some members of the city’s Latino community, in particular, have been victimized by a telephone caller who purports himself to represent a loan company and who tells his caller that the power company is going to disconnect the electricity unless a payment is made. According to Harris, the scammer instructs his victims to a store and place money on a green dot card and then to call him back with the numbers.
