“Walls are up, roof is on”

A young evangelist revved up the crowd Friday during the 3rd Annual Black History Luncheon, sponsored by the city of Seneca. The theme for this year’s luncheon was “Saving the Black Male.” Those attending also got an update on the construction of the city’s first museum for African-American history. Dr. John Martin, curator for both the Lunney House and the new Bertha Lee Strickland museums, invited the audience to drive by the construction site and see the progress. To be restored to reflect the former home of Bertha Lee Strickland, housekeeper at the Lunney home, Martin says, the new museum will feature galleries and archives that will contain copies of every speech made by civil rights leader Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
