Washington roomies draw large crowd

Two “Washington roommates” captivated a large crowd today in Seneca, as the Oconee Chamber of Commerce welcomed two of the state’s elected representatives to the nation’s capital. The meet-and-greet event allowed Congressman Jeff Duncan to introduce Tim Scott, the new U-S senator, to Oconee County. The two Republicans share an apartment while in Washington. The one-hour program allowed Scott and Duncan to highlight some of the country’s top issues, as well as recite the names of the congressional committees for which they serve. The controversial issue of immigration reform consumed the question-answer period. Senator Scott agreed with a Clemson University’s professor’s complaint that the current 844-page bill lacks comprehensive reform. And Third District Representative Jeff Duncan said, from his standpoint, the bill is a non-starter without border security.
