Water plant project proceeding

The project to tap Lake Keowee as Walhalla’s new source for drinking water is proceeding smoothly, in the estimation of the city’s utilities superintendent. Scott Parris told the mayor and council last night that he has visited North Carolina water plants—the type of which Walhalla is considering. He also reported Duke Energy’s willingness to assist Walhalla with its application to the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission to be allowed to draw Lake Keowee water. An important meeting looms Monday at the state Department of Health and Environmental Control in Columbia, but Parris said initial talks with DHEC officials are encouraging.
