Weigh station re-opens on I-85

November 22, 2013

A South Carolina transport police weigh station re-opens today at Townville, at the nine-mile marker on Interstate 85. And, with improved technology to detect safety violations on commercial trucks, the state is confident that its officers will be able to better regulate truck traffic passing through the area. Trucks will be weighed and their credentials screened against federal and state safety standards while they are still moving on the interstate. The technology is called weigh in motion. To mark the re-opening, the State Transport Police and the Department of Public Safety are holding a ceremony at the noon hour today at the weigh station.
