West-Oak teacher lauded for rare achievement

A deaf/hard of hearing teacher at West-Oak High School earned his National Board Certification, a rare achievement in Kyle Keasler’s specific area of special needs.  Keasler says, “I know what it means to succeed as a deaf man in the hearing world.”  He chose teaching because he wanted to offer students a strong, male role model.  Only about 40% of candidates pass National Board Certification the first year.  Keasler passed on a second attempt.  To apply, a teacher must have at least three years’ teaching experience.
