Westminster to join alliance for one year

Westminster leaders are taking an open mind when it comes to an arm of county government joining with an organization of public and private interests into the new Oconee Economic Alliance. The city council last night chose to join the alliance for one year and pay a membership fee of $3 thousand. But there were questions, whose answers weren’t totally clear. One question Mayor Rick McCormick asked is whether Westminster’s membership entitles it to a seat on the alliance board of directors. And there was a question about the direct benefits might Westminster derive. City Administrator David Smith chose to use the word “intangibles” to explain what’s in it for his city.
